Message from the President
Greetings,
The summer is always a busy time for the Alamo Chapter as AUSA comes to town to host the AUSA Medical Symposium at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center on 27-30 June. As part of the conference, we host the 14th Annual “FOR THE SOLDIER” Golf Tournament on Sunday 26 June. This is our sole fund raiser and all the proceeds go to our mission of supporting our troops. You can assist your Chapter by asking a local business to be a supporter, donate a gift card, sponsor a Wounded Warrior, and volunteer to work the event or register to be a player. It takes a team effort to make the golf tournament a success and we need you to join the team!
The June 2011 luncheon marks the end of my two year tour as your Chapter President. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you and the Soldiers in our area. I am very proud of the many Chapter accomplishments achieved by the members of our organization. The dedication of our volunteer board and committee members made a tremendous difference in facilitating the much needed support to our Soldiers and Families. The Alamo Chapter is fortunate to have LTG (Ret) Steven Speakes as our next leader. He is very talented and motivated to take our Chapter to the next level. Please join me in supporting him by being an active volunteer. If everyone does a little then collective we can do a lot.
Thanks again for your continued support.
COL (R) Bradley D Freeman
Alamo Chapter President

Do You Know a Soldier Moving to San Antonio?
We give our Wounded Warriors and their Families first class concierge service on Fort Sam Houston with our Warrior and Family Support Center. Our surviving spouses and parents (Gold Star Recipients) deserve similar service in a warm welcoming; comfortable building that reflects our continued support and compassionate appreciation. Fort Sam Houston is refurnishing building 130 for the Survivor Outreach Services (SOS).
The mission of the Survivor Outreach Services is to build a unified program which embraces and reassures Survivors that they are continually linked to the Army Family for as long as they desire. SOS serves as the long-term support advocate for Survivors and is responsible for service delivery. The program facilitates support groups, provide life skills education, assist Survivors in managing applicable life-long benefit transition milestones, and connect Survivors with counseling and other resources. SOS provides support to Surviving Family members of Soldiers who died on Active Duty, Army Reserve and National Guard unit members. Survivors are not only primary and secondary next of kin but may include other Family members and even unrelated loved ones such as fiancés. Survivors will remain part of the Army Family and will be welcome at SOS support offices to receive authorized assistance for as long as they desire.
To achieve a first class environment, it will take more than the minimal essential appropriated funds. The Alamo Chapter is committed to raising the funds and donations to bring this program to a standard commensurate with its importance. To start this campaign, the Alamo Chapter requested, coordinated and facilitated the donation from HQ AUSA picture above. Furniture, audio-visual and automation equipment for the “Hall of Heroes” and numerous other support items will be needed. Please contact the Chapter if you know of a business that would like to support our Gold Start spouses and parents by creating a first class facility for Survivor Outreach Services.
