Chapter's Accomplishments

What has the Alamo Chapter done in the last year to support the Soldiers and Families of Fort Sam Houston?

  • Held three General Membership Meetings with outstanding speakers. LTG (Ret) Roger Thompson from the National AUSA Headquarters, CSM Daniel Woods, Northern Command, and Mr. Randall Robinson, Region Director (West) Installation Management Command
  • Held 12 monthly Board of Directors meeting to determine how the Chapter can best support Fort Sam Houston and our Army. Copies of monthly minutes and financial reports are sent to National AUSA Headquarters. All chapter members are invited to attend these sessions. They are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 0730 hours at Earl Abel’s Restaurant on Austin Highway.
  • Provided refreshments for several Groundbreaking ceremonies such as the Medical Education and Training Campus and the Vocational Rehabilitation Center at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital.
  • Attended the Regional and National AUSA Conventions at Fort Hood and Washington, DC. At the National Convention the Chapter purchases tickets for the Fort Sam Houston, USARSO and Army North NCO’s and Soldiers of the Year.
  • Supported the MEDCOM Soldier and NCO of the Year by providing lunch for the participants. While the competition was held at Fort Lewis, Washington we provided the support because we are the Home of Army Medicine.
  • Held a golf tournament in conjuction with the Medical Symposium held in San Antonio last June. This is our major money making event, and we earned over $20,000.
  • Supported the Junior ROTC program by providing AUSA Chapter Medals and presenting them to outstanding cadets at the end of the year ceremonies. We have also started a new initiative to provide support for the UTSA ROTC program.
  • Set up our Chapter AUSA Booth at Retiree Day and at the monthly Extravaganza sessions. We attempt to explain to the Post newcomers and retirees why they should belong to AUSA. We provide prior AUSA members information on how to change their address after moving here.
  • Support for our Warriors in Transition by providing tickets for the Fiesta Parades, tickets for Fiesta Dances, food for special events such as the Super Bowl Party, and hunting and fishing outings at the ranches of our Corporate Members. We provide free tickets for Wounded Warriors at all of our General Membership Meetings.
  • Provided a large financial contribution to the Institute of Land Warfare and the Army Historical Foundation to help with the construction of the new Army Museum at Fort Belvoir.
  • Held a very successful Corporate Membership Drive last Fall where we were successful in increasing our membership by 20%.
  • We are the chartering partner for Scout Troop 26 . We purchased them a new troop flag that has Alamo Chapter, AUSA embroidered on it. We also provided a special plaque to Scout Eric Rolfe when he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
  • Authorized $2,500 to support the Fort Sam Runners at this year’s Army 10 Miler running event held during the National AUSA Convention.
  • Contributed $1,000 to the Fort Sam Houston “Year of the Army NCO” event. This provided refreshments, awards and help for the banquet.
  • Provided $1,000 to the AMEDD Center and School Holiday Ball.
